FOCUS

Pedro Matos • TANGLED LINES LEGENDS

ON THE LIST Lo Stagnone, Sicily • The lagoon at Lo Stagnone, Sicily has to be one of Europe’s best flat-water kite spots. Last year I spent a week there with my family enjoying the culture, cuisine and constant wind…

AIRUSH ULTRA TEAM DS • Matt Maxwell, one of Cape Town’s talented riders, has competed at a number of GKA events in the Kite-Surf discipline. He joined the Airush team last year and tells us about their newest kite, the Ultra Team DS, which he enjoys for lightwind wave riding and foiling.

ONE FINE DAY • Europe’s weather seemed relentless this winter, but that didn’t always translate to ideal kitesurfing conditions. So when the charts aligned for Portugal’s legendary Supertubos, Nuno Figueiredo didn’t hesitate to make the two-hour dash to catch the window, joining other local heroes and photographer Heidi Hansen who also braved the 16th December storm.

FIGO VAN EKEREN • We recently bumped into Figo van Ekeren in Cape Town and were blown away by the talent he shows for such a young kiter. At only 11 years old, he is (if memory serves us correctly) the youngest rider to ever grace the pages of TheKiteMag. Already making waves on the GKA Youth tour, he is definitely one to watch. And it seems CORE agree as they’ve just signed him to their team.

STUFF WE LIKE THE LOOK OF

SECOND HOME • Second Home, a recent video by Ramiro Gallart and Nicolas Gilomen, was born from the idea of returning to their kite park roots and showcasing what this discipline represents. Shot in Brazil, it’s a stunning tribute to park riding, so we caught up with Rami to dive into the making of the film and why this specific slice of coastline has become his home away from home.

A Letter of Thanks • Nathalie Lambrecht’s latest video release pays tribute to an important person in her life – her sister Nicole – who is there to cheer her on at events or commiserate if things don’t go to plan. While the spotlight often shines on the athlete alone, this film reminds us that every victory is a shared milestone for the team behind the scenes.

PILGRIMAGE • Every year, the RRD crew makes a pilgrimage to South Africa’s windy “Mother City” to chase wind and ride waves, putting their gear through its paces and gathering media content for the upcoming season. Marketing and Team Manager Jacopo Giusti gives us the inside scoop on what went down during this year’s mission.

OVER THE MOON • The moon was full, the wind was howling, and all the top dogs were tearing it up in the lagoon. Andre Magarao had his camera lens locked on Ben Hoffman, former German freestyle champion, and they are both over the moon with the results. They sat down afterwards to chew over their sessions in Brazil, and to discuss the waxing and waning of Ben’s career.

Leap OF Faith • Jett Bradshaw and Nick Jacobsen have been friends and fellow team riders for a long time. So when the industry’s premier stuntman launched his own kite brand, it was almost inevitable that Jett would join the fold. We got in touch with the young protégé to find out more about him and this new chapter with the jacobsen team.

THE HARLEM UPCYCLED COLLECTION • What to do with kites that have come to the end of their flying days? Rather than see them all go into landfill, Harlem...
