FOCUS

OMETEPE, NICARAGUA • Crossing Lake Nicaragua by ferry, Ometepe Island revealed itself in full grandeur. Two volcanic giants, Concepción and Maderas, rise dramatically from the water, their peaks piercing the clouds, cloaked in lush green forest. The island’s primeval presence feels almost magnetic, pulling you in with a quiet, untamed energy.

LIEUWE SHOTGUN AIR • Bouwe Kerkstra from the Netherlands started at Lieuwe as an intern, and has now been working with the brand for about five years, becoming more and more involved in R&D, helping with testing, fine-tuning and developing their boards. He took some time out to tell us about Lieuwe’s brand-new Shotgun Air.

INSIDE CIRCLES • Scroll down Dominic Knoppe’s Instagram page and you’ll probably reach the same conclusion we did: he’s a snowboard ninja. But he can kite too, and for him the two aren’t mutually exclusive – they’re both about being out in nature, experiencing H2O in its different forms. Iceland provided the perfect cocktail of adventure for a new video project.

CHASING THE DELTA • It’s not exactly top-secret that northern Brazil is a magic destination for our sport, attracting riders back year after year. Roderick Pijls is no exception and he shares with us what it is that draws him to the country. He also chats through his latest mission there and the gear he packed to make the most of the trip.

THE CREATORS. Lasse Walker • Duotone’s kite designers Ken Winner, Sky Solbach and others are the masterminds behind the brand’s designs, working around the clock to develop their babies. But they are also joined by Lasse Walker, their chief tester. Is he also a designer to a certain extent? What influence does he have on making a successful kite even better? Axel Reese fired him some questions to find out more about the dream job.

TURBULENCE IS BLISS

VITA AMARA • Matteo Dorotini is the current Freestyle Vice-World Champion. He’s featured briefly in this mag before but we thought it was high time we found out a bit more about him, his unique riding style, that GKA podium, and his recent videos. Andre Magarao fired him some questions when he was at home recovering from an injury. Hopefully he’ll be back on the water very soon, so watch this space…

DAWN RAID • Cape Town is legendary for its high-octane sunset sessions with nuking winds, but Hannah Whiteley finds another kind of magic in the dawn. Seeking a fresh perspective on the city, she teamed up with local photographer Bianca Asher to capture the stillness of first light, and they also experimented with double-exposure shots to capture something visually distinctive.

KEYS TO THE KINGDOM • Florida Keys is an integral part of kiteboarding history and particularly park riding. Ryan “Rygo” Goloversic and Kristen Cooper, who have just joined the Eleveight team, are regulars there, and after an unexpected nine months off the water, they headed down there to get back on the sessions and hit some rails, along with buddy Chris Bobryk.

BABY SHARK • Josué San “Baby Shark” Ferreira has just released two videos about his recent signing with Airush Kiteboarding and participation in the hardcore Lords of Tram event in France. So we thought it was a good time to get him on the line and find out more about the young talent from northern Brazil.
